Shannon Raybold, UN Foundation Internet Director

I recently left the ONE Campaign to Make Poverty History to become the Internet Director at the United Nations Foundation. At the UN Foundation I run 7 online campaigns to support UN causes from poverty to energy to lobbying for better US-UN relations. Check out our newest fundraising campaign to prevent malaria by providing bed nets to children under 5 in Africa, www.NothingButNets.net. At ONE I ran the online side of the campaign for a year and a half from its start, growing our list to 2 million online activists who took over 3.7 million actions via ONE.org in the fight against global poverty. The unique access to high-profile celebrities, a clear call to action while not asking for money, and large-scale events such as Live8 and U2 concerts were and continue to be key to the success of the campaign, proving that once people know about the issues they are more willing to get involved than you might think (especially if Bono is the one asking for your time). We also set up the largest text messaging campaign to date with Sun Microsystems at the U2 Concerts and again at Live8, admittedly not the most successful follow-up wise but many good lessons learned. Previously, I worked on the Kerry-Edwards Internet Team as the Deputy National Database Administrator and before that at The Justice Project and Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation.
